Interesting lecture, spanning from the building of cities and how people are affected socially by them. Leading on to the mysterious watching and photographing people in different cities. Building a city gives massive source for photographers and journalist to document.

Wrote 'Form Follows Function" his buildings have high detail but is also functional. Building is split up in sections, very organised design.

There was a fire in 1872 and opened it up for Louis Sullivan.

Critiques the 'production line' - Charlie messes up the production line and gets accused of bring a communist. Decides to become a waiter and performs which becomes a hit. Art over Industry. MI5 spied on him after over fear he was a communist.
Stock Market Crash 1929
Factories close up, unemployment goes up drastically. The 1% elite pull their money from business to buy stocks for pennies when the crash happens.
Diziega Vector
The idea is he almost flies around the city recording these snapshots. The movie theatre its self is presented as a machine too. Very photographic of its approached, still frames.
Flaneur
Means strollers, lounger, saunterer, loafer. Someone who walks around the city taking it in, but experiences the city from a removed point of view. An observer of the city. Charles Baudelaire says it's a 'a person walks the city in order to experience it'.

Wrote a massive epic where Jr attempts to organise different aspects of city life. Theoretical and analytical examination of porivian life.
Susan Sontag
Solitary walker reconnoitring, stalking, cruising the urban inferno. Gives the photographer access to look.
Daido Mariyama (1970's)
Repeated motif of grainy black and white city. Almost a drunken style. Suggests him investigating the Americanization in Tokyo probably not intentionally.

Surveillance City
Since the twin towers everything is recorded, we now seek machines yo look at pictures on our behalfs. When the 77 bombins occurred, images occurred within minutes of it happening. Back to photography's most basic function - informational.
